Your Painting’s Better…

With the introduction of Paint Nite came the opportunity to learn and experiment – all while enjoying a night out with the family. What will amaze anyone who is able to toss their self-criticism aside (perhaps with the help of a little beverage or two) is that they will have painted something they never thought they could within two hours.

Apart from the routine of naming the 3 brushes to engage the painters, they start the session with a little oath that you won’t be negative about your work – and you won’t say things like the title of this blog. In a way, it’s a good lesson for life. Don’t sweat the small stuff, grow a pair and face your self-doubt by denying it any chance at killing your self-esteem before you start.

Every painting from every person is naturally unique and the results are always impressive… well, if you don’t hate yourself because you’re not a professional artist and your perspective or composition is a little whacky, or your colour choices aren’t as nice as the ones you see on other people’s work, etc… Again, you have to pause and think – “I did this in 2 hours”.

You won’t believe the variety of paintings that local artists help guide you through the process. Check out paintnight.com in your area and plan for some fun. (By the way, I’m just someone who is a happy customer/participant/life-long-learner).

Here are the four pieces that I did in 2015 paint nights. I can be a little self-critical here and admit they aren’t prized masterpieces, but they are two hour paintings of subject matter that I had never tried painting before and I’m happy with the results.
